The neighborhood
Kings Gate was platted in 1980 and covers about 190 acres between 82nd Street and 98th Street, from Quaker Avenue east to about Memphis Avenue. The plat is recorded as King’s Gate, and the appraisal district lists its homes as Kings Gate, without the apostrophe.
It is mostly single-family homes, about 560 of them, with 28 multifamily properties and a few commercial lots along its edges. Most addresses are in the 79423 ZIP code; those along Quaker Avenue are 79424.

Homes here date from 1980 on. Lots run from about 5,000 to 12,500 square feet, with a median of about 10,850.

Charles A. Guy Park
The park at 8701 Nashville Avenue is the middle of the neighborhood: about 13.3 acres of park around a 7-acre playa lake, with a 0.74-mile walking trail, a playground and swings, basketball and volleyball courts, a pavilion, grills and picnic tables. It is named for Charles A. Guy, the longtime editor of the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal.
Henry Huneke Park at 8201 Orlando Avenue and Clifford Andrews Park at 7801 Orlando Avenue, each around a lake, are at the north edge.
Kingsgate Center
Kingsgate Center, at 8201 Quaker Avenue on the corner of 82nd Street, sits at the neighborhood’s northwest corner. Its merchants include Sprouts Farmers Market, Chipotle, McAlister’s Deli, Corralito’s Steakhouse, Hayashi Hibachi, Sephora, lululemon, LOFT, Talbots and James Avery.
School district
Kings Gate is in Lubbock ISD. Addresses here look up to Honey Elementary, Evans Middle School and Monterey High School. Attendance zones change, so check each address with the district.
Getting around
Quaker Avenue runs along the west side and 82nd Street along the north, both main routes into the city. UMC Health and Wellness Hospital on Slide Road is about seven minutes away.
